Intro

Set the tone for Shabbat with a challah board pieced together from strips of varied wood grain, arranged in a herringbone pattern that shifts in tone across its surface. The words Shabbat Shalom are engraved in Hebrew at the point where the chevrons meet, greeting the table each week. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Used to serve the bread at the start of the Shabbat meal, the board is built from strips of wood joined in a herringbone layout, each strip carrying its own grain and shade. The rectangular board measures approximately 19.5 x 13.5 inches, wide enough to hold a full loaf. Its flat surface and sturdy build make it suited to cutting and serving alike.

Gift Ideas

The board's warm wood tones and engraved greeting make it a natural gift for a housewarming, wedding, or engagement. It suits someone setting up a Jewish home for the first time, and works equally well as an anniversary or bar or bat mitzvah gift. Its everyday usefulness makes it a welcome gift beyond those occasions too.

Care Instructions

Wipe the board clean by hand and dry it right away rather than leaving it to soak. An occasional rub with food safe wood oil keeps the grain from drying out and preserves its color.
