Intro

Bring a warm centerpiece to your Shabbat table with this oval challah board, made to hold and present the bread at the start of the meal. A polished metal frame runs the full oval, engraved with the words of the Shabbat V'Yom Tov blessing in flowing Hebrew script. The bare wood at the center is left plain, letting the grain and the engraved border carry the design on their own. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has shaped Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Cut from acacia wood with a smooth, unfinished center, the board is framed in metal engraved with the Shabbat V'Yom Tov blessing. The oval measures 18 inches by 13.5 inches and about 1 inch thick, sized to hold a full loaf or two. The metal border has no handles, keeping the shape clean and the surface easy to set down or lift by the edges.

Gift Ideas

The board suits a housewarming, wedding, or engagement gift for anyone setting a Shabbat table. It works well for a bar or bat mitzvah gift too, or for marking an anniversary with something used weekly. Its size and finish make it a piece that gets used often, not tucked away.

Care Instructions

Wipe the wood clean with a damp cloth and dry it right away to keep the grain from warping. Avoid soaking the board or running it through a dishwasher, and keep the metal frame free of abrasive cleaners to preserve the engraving.
