Intro
Add a touch of Jerusalem to your Havdalah table with this turquoise spice box, wrapped in a silver metal cutout band depicting the city's arches, domes, and palms. The besamim box holds fragrant spices smelled at the close of Shabbat, its perforated lid letting the scent rise through. The Jerusalem imagery carries a sense of heritage and connection, fitting for the moment Shabbat departs. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has graced Jewish homes for over two decades.
Build and Use
Formed from anodized aluminum, the spice box is finished in turquoise with a hand cut metal overlay depicting the Jerusalem skyline. The perforated top lifts off to reveal the compartment inside, sized to hold whole cloves or other besamim. The box measures about 2 by 1.5 inches, compact enough to sit easily in hand during Havdalah.
Gift Ideas
Compact and colorful, this spice box makes a natural wedding or housewarming gift, especially for a couple furnishing their first Havdalah set. It suits a bar or bat mitzvah or an engagement gift just as well, and works nicely paired with a candle or wine cup as part of a larger Havdalah set. Its size and color also make it an easy gift to send on its own.
Care Instructions
Wipe the spice box with a soft, dry cloth to keep the metal cutout band bright. Avoid water and abrasive cleaners, which can dull the anodized finish over time.
