Intro
Add a piece of Jerusalem to your Havdalah table with this compact besamim box, its aluminum band cut into a detailed skyline of the city's towers and rooftops. The perforated lid releases the scent of the spices held within, while the cutout Jerusalem imagery speaks to heritage and connection. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has shaped Jewish ritual objects for over two decades.
Build and Use
Used for the spice blessing at the close of Shabbat, the besamim box holds whole cloves or other fragrant spices beneath its perforated cap. Crafted from aluminum, the cylindrical body is wrapped in a metal cutout band depicting the Jerusalem skyline, with the cap and base hand painted by skilled artisans. The box measures about 2 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide, sized to sit easily in the hand.
Gift Ideas
Small and richly detailed, this spice box makes a fitting gift for a wedding, engagement, or housewarming, especially for a couple furnishing their first Havdalah set. It also suits a bar or bat mitzvah gift or an anniversary present tied to Jewish tradition. Its compact size makes it easy to give alongside a candle or wine cup as part of a larger Havdalah gift.
Care Instructions
Wipe the spice box with a soft, dry cloth to keep the metal cutout detail clean. Avoid soaking it or using abrasive cleaners, and store it away from moisture to preserve its finish.
