Intro

Bring a bit of color to Havdalah with a turquoise besamim box, its metal band cut through with the words Borei Minei Besamim, the blessing recited over spices. The pierced lettering sits against a bright enamel finish, catching light as the box is passed around the table. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose Judaica has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Used at the close of Shabbat, the besamim box holds fragrant spices for the Havdalah blessing. Cut from metal in a cylindrical form, the lid is perforated with small holes to let the scent through, while the band beneath is cut through with the blessing's Hebrew text. The box measures about 2 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide, sized to sit easily in the hand.

Gift Ideas

Compact and colorful, this besamim box makes a fitting wedding or housewarming gift, especially for a couple furnishing their first Havdalah set. It also suits a bar or bat mitzvah or an anniversary, and works well as a small addition to any Judaica collection. Its size and finish make it easy to gift on its own or alongside other Havdalah pieces.

Care Instructions

Wipe the box clean with a soft, dry cloth to keep the metal finish bright. Avoid abrasive cleaners or soaking, and keep it dry between uses to preserve the cutout detail.
