Intro

Add a flutter of color to any wall with this blue butterfly, its layered wings washed in cobalt, turquoise and deep navy. A dotted turquoise body sits at the center, and open cut-outs let light pass between the wing layers. The butterfly is a classic symbol of renewal and change, which makes it a quiet, hopeful piece for a home. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has graced Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Cut from metal in an XXL size, the butterfly measures approximately 12 x 11 inches (28 x 31 cm). Yair Emanuel's hand painted design is reproduced across the wings, with the wing layers set at slightly different depths. A small hole in the body lets it hang from a single nail or hook. The piece weighs about 1.1 pounds, light enough for most walls.

Gift Ideas

A butterfly wall hanging makes a bright housewarming gift for a new home or a first apartment. It suits a wedding, an engagement, or an anniversary, and works well for a bar or bat mitzvah too. The blue tones also fit a child's room or a nursery, and the piece is a warm choice even without an occasion.

Care Instructions

Dust the butterfly with a soft, dry cloth, or wipe it lightly with a barely damp one. Keep it away from abrasive cleaners and standing water so the colors stay vivid. Hang it indoors, out of constant direct sun.
