Intro
Bring a splash of color to your havdalah ceremony with a small spice box painted with the rooftops of Jerusalem. Golden domes, city walls and palm trees surround a blue center pierced with holes, and a vine of blossoms winds around the sides. Jerusalem imagery speaks of heritage and connection, and the flowers carry the sweetness of the week ahead. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has graced Jewish homes for over two decades.
Build and Use
Made of hand painted wood, the spice box measures approximately 2 x 2 x 1 inches and weighs about 40 grams. The lid is pierced with small holes so the fragrance of the besamim rises through it. It is used at the havdalah ceremony as Shabbat ends, and its compact size slips easily onto a shelf or into a drawer between uses.
Gift Ideas
A hand painted spice box makes a thoughtful housewarming or wedding gift for a couple setting up a Jewish home. It suits an engagement, a bar or bat mitzvah, or an anniversary just as well. The bright Jerusalem scene also makes a warm gift for anyone who loves the city.
Care Instructions
Wipe the box with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from water, since the wood and painted finish do not like soaking. Store it in a dry place and avoid abrasive cleaners so the colors stay bright.
