Intro

Bring a touch of color to your Shabbat table with this hand painted wood matchbox holder, its panels painted with grapes, figs, and olive branches. The Seven Species, the fruits and grains named for the land of Israel, wrap around the box in layered blue and gold tones. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose Judaica has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Set beside the Shabbat candles, the holder keeps a box of matches within easy reach. Hand painted wood forms the square box and the tapered stand beneath it, each panel finished by hand. The piece measures 2 inches by 1 inch by 4.5 inches tall, sized to hold a standard matchbox.

Gift Ideas

Compact and colorful, this matchbox holder makes a fitting housewarming gift for a new home or apartment. It suits a wedding or engagement gift as well, paired with candlesticks or a kiddush cup. The design also works nicely for a bar or bat mitzvah or an anniversary gift.

Care Instructions

Wipe the wood clean with a soft, dry cloth, and keep it away from water and damp conditions. Avoid abrasive cleaners so the painted finish keeps its color over time.
