Intro

Bring color to your Shabbat table with a matchbox holder painted in deep blues, its pomegranates, vines, and a perched bird rendered by hand. The pomegranate motif carries its familiar meaning of blessing and abundance, set here among trailing flowers and a songbird on a branch. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has graced Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Set beside the candles each week, the holder keeps a standard matchbox upright and within reach. Carved from wood and hand painted by skilled artisans, the piece stands on a slim pedestal base that lifts the box for easy handling. It measures about 2 by 1 by 4.5 inches, sized to sit comfortably among the Shabbat candlesticks.

Gift Ideas

The bright, detailed painting makes this a natural housewarming or wedding gift, especially for someone setting up their own Shabbat table. It suits a bar or bat mitzvah or an anniversary just as well, and travels easily as a gift for a couple building a Jewish home. Its small size and vivid color make it a welcome addition even beyond those occasions.

Care Instructions

Wipe the holder clean with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid soaking the wood in water. Keep it away from direct sun and abrasive cleaners so the painted colors stay bright.
