Intro

Set a warm scene at the Shabbat table with a matchbox holder painted with a Jerusalem cityscape, from rooftops to the Old City walls. The wood holder sits atop a slender pedestal, both surfaces carrying the same layered color. Jerusalem imagery calls to mind heritage and connection, fitting for the moment before the candles are lit. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Kept near the Shabbat candles, the holder keeps a matchbox close at hand and upright. Cut from wood and hand painted by skilled artisans, it stands about 4.5 inches tall on a 2 by 1 inch base and holds a standard matchbox inside its sliding sleeve. The pedestal base keeps the piece steady on any table or shelf.

Gift Ideas

The matchbox holder makes a fitting housewarming gift for anyone setting up a Jewish home, and it suits a wedding or engagement gift just as well. Its size and color also make it a good choice for a bar or bat mitzvah or an anniversary. Beyond these occasions, its bright Jerusalem scene works as a simple, colorful gift on its own.

Care Instructions

Wipe the holder clean with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid water or abrasive cleaners that could dull the paint. Keep it away from direct sun to preserve its color over time.
