Intro

Add a small, colorful touch to your Shabbat table with this hand painted match box holder. A bird rests among pomegranate branches across a deep blue background, the fruit standing for blessing and abundance. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Kept by the Shabbat candles, the holder slides open to hold a standard box of matches. Carved from wood and finished by hand with layered paint, it measures about 2 x 2 x 1 inches, with a striking strip built into its side. A brass pull tab eases the sliding tray open and closed.

Gift Ideas

Small and detailed, this match box holder suits a housewarming or a gift for someone setting up their first Shabbat table. It works well alongside candlesticks for a wedding or engagement gift, and fits easily into a bar or bat mitzvah gift bundle. Its size makes it an easy addition to any Judaica gift.

Care Instructions

Wipe the wood clean with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from water. Store it away from direct sunlight to keep the painted colors bright.
