Intro

Bring color to your Shabbat table with a hand painted challah knife and matching stand, each piece covered in vivid Oriental scenes of deer and blossoming branches. The lively menagerie and florals reflect a folk art style rooted in Jerusalem workshops, bringing warmth and pattern to the table each week. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Used to cut the challah at the start of the Shabbat meal, the knife pairs with a wood stand painted to match. Both pieces are crafted from wood and hand painted with layered color, the blade set in a carved wooden handle. The knife measures 12.5 by 1.5 inches, and the stand keeps the blade elevated and visible on the table between uses.

Gift Ideas

The hand painted knife and stand make a thoughtful wedding or housewarming gift, especially for a couple furnishing their first Shabbat table. They also suit a bar or bat mitzvah, an engagement, or an anniversary, and work well as a gift for anyone building a Jewish home. The bright colors make the set a welcome addition to any kitchen year round.

Care Instructions

Wipe the painted wood clean with a soft, dry cloth rather than soaking it in water. Hand wash the blade separately and dry it promptly, keeping the set away from harsh detergents so the colors stay bright.
