Intro

Set a polished piece beside your Shabbat candles with this matchbox holder and tray. A hammered silver tray carries a sliding matchbox case, framed by bronze branch handles and gilded leaves, with a pomegranate perched at the center. The pomegranate has long stood for blessing and abundance, a fitting note for the table where the week begins. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Kept at hand for lighting Shabbat and holiday candles, the holder pairs a sliding matchbox case with a hammered metal tray. Cast in metal and hand painted by skilled artisans, the piece combines a bright silver finish with bronze branches and gold leaf accents. The tray measures about 4 by 3 by 0.5 inches and holds a standard-size matchbox.

Gift Ideas

Compact and finished with care, this piece makes a fitting housewarming gift for a new home or a wedding gift for a couple setting up their own Shabbat table. It also suits a bar or bat mitzvah or an anniversary, marking a milestone with something used every week. Its size and detail make it a welcome gift even without a special occasion in mind.

Care Instructions

Wipe the tray and holder clean with a soft, dry cloth to preserve the painted finish. Avoid soaking the piece or using abrasive cleaners, which can dull the gold and bronze accents.
