Intro

Dress your Shabbat kitchen in color with a plata cover that rests over the hot plate and the food kept warm on it. Pomegranates in red, pink and green climb through gold scrolling vines across a deep blue ground, with the words Shabbat Shalom set at the center. The pomegranate stands for blessing and abundance, a fitting image for food prepared in honor of the day. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has graced Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Made of blue fabric with a soft sheen, the plata cover is embroidered in multicolor thread. It measures 31.5 by 26 inches, sized to drape across a plata hot plate. The Hebrew lettering is stitched in pale silvery thread above the pomegranate vines. The embroidered design is concentrated along the lower edge, leaving the upper field plain blue.

Gift Ideas

A plata cover makes a thoughtful housewarming gift for anyone setting up a Shabbat kitchen. It suits a wedding or engagement, when a couple is building a Jewish home together. It also works well for an anniversary, or a bar or bat mitzvah family gift. The rich embroidery makes it a lasting present for any occasion.

Care Instructions

Spot clean gently with a damp cloth and let the fabric dry flat. Avoid soaking or harsh scrubbing so the embroidery keeps its sheen. Keep the cover clear of open flame and store it folded flat when not in use.
