Intro

Bring a calm blue accent to your Shabbat kitchen with an embroidered plata cover, its center panel reading Shabbat Shalom within a vine of pomegranates. The cover goes over the plata, the hot plate that keeps food warm through Shabbat. The pomegranate stands for blessing and abundance. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has been part of Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Pieced from blue fabric in several tones, the plata cover measures 31.5 by 26 inches, sized to drape over a plata. A pale center panel is embroidered with Shabbat Shalom in Hebrew, framed by a pomegranate vine in blue, sage and gold. The patchwork of textured blocks gives the surface a soft, varied sheen.

Gift Ideas

A blue embroidered plata cover makes a thoughtful housewarming gift for anyone setting up a Jewish home. It suits a wedding or engagement, and it works well for an anniversary. It is also a lovely choice for a bar or bat mitzvah family or for a Shabbat host who keeps a plata in daily use.

Care Instructions

Spot clean the fabric gently with a damp cloth and let it air dry. Keep the cover clear of direct contact with the heating element. If needed, press on a low setting from the reverse side to protect the embroidery.
