Intro

Set the tone for Shabbat with a challah cover built from panels of gold and deep blue raw silk. The cover keeps the challah out of sight on the table until kiddush is complete. Pomegranate branches, a symbol of blessing and abundance, are appliqued across both panels with embroidered stems and outlines, and the words Shabbat V'Yom Tov are embroidered in silver across the center. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has shaped Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Made from raw silk, the cover is built using applique, cut fabric shapes stitched onto the silk ground, with embroidered stems, outlines and lettering finishing the design. The panels alternate gold and blue, bordered with rows of small pomegranates in red and burgundy. The cover measures 19.5 by 15.5 inches, sized to sit over a standard challah board or tray.
