At the Seder, the larger piece of the broken middle matzah, the afikoman, is set aside in this cover to be eaten at the end of the meal, often after being hidden for the children to find. The pomegranates carry their familiar meaning of blessing and abundance, fitting for a table centered on renewal. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has shaped Jewish ritual objects for over two decades.

Build and Use

Appliqued by hand onto soft fabric, the cover layers pomegranate shapes in gold, burgundy and pink across a banded gold ground, with the word אפיקומן embroidered at its center. The piece measures 12 inches by 9 inches, sized to hold and conceal the afikoman matzah through the Seder. Its layered fabric panels give the cover structure while keeping it light and easy to fold away after the holiday.

Gift Ideas

The cover makes a natural Passover gift for a couple hosting their first Seder, or for family building their own holiday traditions. It suits a housewarming, an engagement, or any occasion where a meaningful Judaica piece is welcome. Its rich color and detailed appliqué also make it a fitting gift on its own, apart from any particular occasion.

Care Instructions

Spot clean the cover gently with a damp cloth rather than washing it in a machine, to protect the appliqued layers. Store it flat or loosely folded between uses to keep the fabric and stitching smooth.
