A challah cover sets apart the bread until it is uncovered at the table. At the center, a framed cartouche carries the Hebrew words for Shabbat and holidays, surrounded by a carpet-like pattern of blossoms and vines. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has furnished Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Woven from a durable cotton and polyester blend, the cover is fully embroidered in silk thread across its entire surface, with no bare fabric left between the floral motifs. It measures 19.5 by 15.5 inches, sized to sit over a standard challah loaf or two. The dense embroidery gives the piece weight and structure, letting it hold its shape well over years of weekly use.

Gift Ideas

The fully embroidered surface and silver carpet pattern make this cover a striking gift for a wedding, engagement, or housewarming. It also suits a bar or bat mitzvah or an anniversary, and works well for anyone furnishing a Jewish home for the first time. Its detailed craftsmanship gives it a formal, gift-worthy presence beyond the everyday.

Care Instructions

Spot clean the cover with a damp cloth to protect the silk embroidery, and avoid machine washing or wringing. Keep it away from direct sunlight and store it flat when not in use to preserve the stitching.
