A cream panel at the center is embroidered with Shabbat Shalom, framed by a vine of pomegranates in soft grey thread. The pomegranate stands for blessing and abundance, a fitting image for the food of the Shabbat meal. Designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has been part of Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Measuring 31.5 by 26 inches, the plata cover is sized to drape over a plata, not over a challah. Patchwork panels of silver and grey fabric, in smooth and finely striped textures, surround the embroidered center. The embroidery is worked in thread that stays crisp against the cream panel. The cover is lightweight and folds flat for storage between Shabbat meals.

Gift Ideas

Elegant and useful, the plata cover makes a natural wedding or engagement gift for a couple setting up their first Shabbat kitchen. It suits a housewarming just as well, or an anniversary for a family that keeps Shabbat every week. The neutral silver tones fit most kitchens, so it is an easy choice for a bar or bat mitzvah family too.

Care Instructions

Spot clean the fabric gently with a damp cloth and let it air dry flat. Avoid soaking the embroidered panel or using harsh cleaners. Shake out any crumbs after use and store the cover folded in a dry place.
