Curling vines carry the fruit across the lower half, with Shabbat Shalom stitched in Hebrew at the center. The pomegranate stands for blessing and abundance. A plata cover rests over the hot plate and the food kept warm on it, and this one was designed by Jerusalem artist Yair Emanuel, whose work has been part of Jewish homes for over two decades.

Build and Use

Made of silver fabric with a lustrous woven texture, the plata cover measures 31.5 by 26 inches. That size is cut to drape over a plata, with room to fall past the edges. The embroidery in silver, gold and soft green thread fills the lower half, while the upper half stays plain and smooth.

Gift Ideas

The plata cover makes a natural housewarming or wedding gift for a couple setting up a Jewish home. It suits an engagement or an anniversary just as well. A bar or bat mitzvah family hosting Shabbat meals would also welcome it.

Care Instructions

Spot clean the cover gently with a damp cloth and let it air dry. Skip the washing machine so the embroidery keeps its shape. Store it flat or loosely folded between uses.
